For Michael – About “The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle
So here is the quote from the book that made me curious about it. This is from the first pages:
„A beggar had been sitting by the side of a road for over thirty years. One day a stranger walked by.
“Spare some change?” mumbled the beggar, mechanically holding out his old baseball cap.
“I have nothing to give you,” said the stranger. Then he asked: “What’s that you are sitting on?”
“Nothing,” replied the beggar. “Just an old box. I have been sitting on it for as long as I can remember.”
“Ever looked inside?” asked the stranger.
“No,” said the beggar. “What’s the point? There’s nothing in there.”
“Have a look inside,” insisted the stranger.
The beggar managed to pry open the lid. With astonishment, disbelief, and elation, he saw that the box was filled with gold.
I am that stranger who has nothing to give you and who is telling you to look inside. Not inside any box, as in the parable, but somewhere even closer: inside yourself.“
Is it really so? Do I really have all the answers inside myself?
In my daily life my mind is struggling with practical issues, planning future and sometimes regretting the past. My daily routine takes me out of the right way. I sometimes become nervous, anxious and stressed, running here and wanting to be there. And the most ironic is, that I don’t even realize it’s me ..I start thinking is other people’s fault. This book made me see there is too much noise in my mind, and that as soon as I slow down and concentrate on my actions and feelings, it all falls into the right place again. According the author the key to happiness and interior peace is accepting the present moment.
I understood that there is nothing more important than the step I’m making right now and that I must appreciate every moment I’m living and feeling just the way it is. The greatest suggestions is to learn from Nature. Every animal, stone, tree or flower can teach us what Being and Acceptance is. I’ve learned that my existence is a little part of the Universe and I am enough and strong and capable and beautiful as I am. Only accepting what I am, I’ll be capable to understand and love the other. I truly believe that it all starts form us and inside us we can always find our true power.
Dear Michael, this book hasn’t changed my life but it showed me aspects and perspectives of life I haven’t considered before. It touches such simple arguments like Being, Love and acceptance. Sometimes I like to restart reading random chapters as I know that here I can find my lost inspiration.
And finally, the greatest believe I found and agree with, is that by giving Love and putting Love in everything I do will always take me into the right direction and towards the greatest achievements.
Hoping this lecture will inspire you and our friends as much as it inspired me, I’m sending you a big hug.
