Vienna´s Tedx Conference 2016 made me think about lots of topics – and just to be honest “thinking” means believing to have a clue, rethink, getting inspired and curious and at last understanding I know nothing about physics (but a bit about falafel). Eugene Quinns (www.spaceandplace.at) topic on the other hand was quite interesting for it had some connecting points to a coaching setting I tried several times. He talked about “walking” and how it helps you to get to know a city, feel it, listen to its sound. So instead of sitting in a meeting room, at a conference table or in an office, I asked my clients if they´d feel comfortable to walk, preferably through a nice and welcoming surrounding like a wood (I´d rather not advise a “Gürtel Walk” in Vienna). At the beginning, this was new for both of us, me and the client. Learning on the way, as you might say – and that´s what it is. Over time I made some good, some not so good experiences with walking.

Here´s what I learned so far:

Walking itself is neither good nor bad as a “setting” for a coaching unit – it just needs to fit the clients needs and  your own, and the topic you´re working on. There are people who might think they´d be much more able to think clearly when they walk, some don´t.  Some topics require a place to sit and write, some don´t. So if you consider to have a walk with your client instead of sitting indoors – think about those circumstances (and do have a plan b in case of sudden rain.. believe me with this one!).

Do you have experiences with Coach`n`Walk? If so, let me know!
